The Safety and Effectiveness of Chiropractic for Kids
3rd November 2009
Having children who are consistently sick and immune challenged is physically and emotionally draining and for many families the financial strain of having time off work, caring for unwell little ones, creates further stress.
So much so, that many parents are now very clear about investing in strengthening their children’s health. Investing time, energy and money seeking care and advice from holistic Allied Health practitioners. Health care professions that prioritise coaching individual families in the development of essential wellness habits.
Recently the Journal of Science and Healing, Volume 5, Issue 5, Pages 290-295 included a study on The Safety and Effectiveness of Chiropractic: A Survey of Chiropractors and Parents in a Practice-Based Research Network.
Many questions are raised when parents comment that they are seeking advice on how to strengthen their child’s health, which is exactly why this study went ahead. With the continued popularity of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies for children, their safety and effectiveness are of high concern for both CAM and conventional therapy providers.
Chiropractic is one of the most popular forms of practitioner-based CAM therapies for children.
The objective of this study was to describe the practice of paediatric chiropractic, including its safety and effectiveness using a cross-sectional survey. The participants were chiropractors and parents of paediatric patients (aged ?18 years) attending chiropractic visits ranging from one to 12 visits.
OVERALL This study found that the primary reason parents sought chiropractic care for their children was for “wellness care.”
Now that’s exciting!! That means more and more parents truly appreciate and understand that the time to prioritise their child’s health is before they have to!!!
